This is our family. Greg and Laurie were
married in 1998. Starting at Chrysler Corp. when he was 18, Greg retired in '98 with thirty years. He stayed retired for a year and a half before going to work part time at a Police Dept. Working in the lockup section, he now processes and
puts into jail some of Michigan's finest
citizens. His only surprise so far is that after a couple of years at this job, he hasn't come across any of the people he used to work with in the factory.
Laurie was a widow when she and Greg met. They met thru a county radio station
in 1996. She is a Certified Home Health Aide who cares for patients in their homes when they have a need for care that our hospitals won't provide anymore. She has an outgoing personality that makes her perfect for her job. Many times, patients who had exhausted their amount of visits and were able to obtain another
prescription for home care, asked for Laurie specifically. The family really appreciates her relationship with her patients because the ones that are able to get around, sometimes bake some good stuff for her to take home.
Smokey and Casper are the feline section of the family. Smokey turned 16 years old in March of 2002. He is diabetic and needs insulin, almost on a daily basis.
We do home testing with a glucometer, just like a human, except we draw the blood from his paws (ouch!!). Our Veterinarian believes this has helped him to live as long as he has. His eyes have developed cataracts but his sense of smell is still good enough to be an active member of the family in the kitchen during meals.
Casper came to us from our Vet. who got her from someone that had found her in a dumpster. She was about a year old at the time and just turned 6 years old in April of 2002. Still a bit jumpy at times, probably from her first year of life, Casper is a great hunter (too good at times), and usually stays up all night checking her property thru the windows. She is a true feline in that she wants affection only when SHE wants it. Thankfully, as she's getting older, that need comes more often.

And then there is our lovable Missy. She is a mixture of Husky, Shepherd and Norwegian Elkhound, or so we've been told, and turned 3 years old in Sept. of 2002. She has powerful legs and almost super canine amounts of energy. We saw Missy at the Anti-Cruelty Association and she pretty much decided that we were taking her home. She adapted well at living with the cats and shows signs of protection to Smokey when the younger Casper decides to pick on him. Missy's great abundance of energy is only surpassed by her obsession with food. She plops on the floor while Laurie is cooking and doesn't leave the kitchen until the last dinner dish is washed. We think she should get at least a part time job to help with the food costs.
Missy created a Home Page with America Online a couple of years ago if you want to view it...
Greg and Laurie created one in 1997 and if you want, you can see that too if you....
On a sad note, one of our very best friends, Smokey, went to the Rainbow Bridge. He went back to live with God on
September 5th of 2002. His diabetes was pretty much under control but other complications made him all but completely lose his appetite. Despite losing about half of his normal weight, he continued to jump and sometimes run like nothing was wrong. Our Veterinarian said he was made of steel. But after 16 1/2 years together we had to say good-bye and give him back to his Creator. There's a very true saying that goes: "The only fault with our animals is that they don't live long enough". And with Smokey, that saying is very, very true.
Man used to worship cats. Cats have not forgotten.
No animal should ever jump up on the dining room furniture unless
absolutely certain that he can hold his own in the conversation. ~~

"Women and cats will do as they please and men and
dogs should relax and get used to the idea." --
Robert A. Heinlein
"The cat has too much spirit to have no heart."

want to go where they went."
